The Garden as Cloud, 2025
VR / Immersive
Director: Clara Kraft Isono
Producer: Corinne Mynatt
Building on the research and experience of Clara Kraft Isono directing the film ‘Bawa’s Garden’ (2022), The Garden as a Cloud is an immersive 360° experience that brings to life Geoffrey Bawa’s iconic Lunuganga garden—one of the most important tropical landscape gardens of the 20th century, located in Bentota, Sri Lanka.
The virtual reconstruction is built from over 300 high-resolution 3D scans captured on-site, offering a unique spatial encounter with the garden as both a living landscape and an evolving work of architecture. More than a precise digital model, this experience serves as a dynamic spatial archive—preserving the spirit of Lunuganga while inviting new ways of seeing, studying, and engaging with Bawa’s vision. To step inside is to explore this reimagined garden—where memory, architecture, and nature converge in a cloud of immersive possibility.
After premiering in Colombo in July 2025 as part of the exhibition Ways of Knowing, the project will be permanently housed at the Geoffrey Bawa Trust Archive. It will serve as a publicly accessible educational tool and will be available for future international touring exhibitions.
